Antara River Cruises, India’s leading luxury river cruise operator, has signed an agreement with Hooghly CSL

Antara River Cruises, India’s leading luxury river cruise operator, has signed an agreement with Hooghly Cochin Shipyard Limited (Hooghly CSL), a subsidiary of Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), for the construction of two luxury cruise vessels for operations on the Brahmaputra River. The deal includes a confirmed contract for the first vessel and a Letter of Intent for the second.

Known for its premium cruises on the Ganga, Padma, and Brahmaputra, Antara’s flagship Ganga Vilas holds the record for the world’s longest river cruise. The new vessels will be the first luxury cruises to sail under the Inland Vessels (IV) Rules, 2022 on the Brahmaputra, marking a milestone in Indian maritime history.

The agreement was signed in the presence of CSL CMD Madhu S. Nair, Hooghly CSL CEO Sanil Peter, and Antara Chairman Raj Singh. The project aligns with the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative and is expected to boost India’s profile in global river cruise tourism while promoting sustainable and culturally rich travel experiences.
