Suicide

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has demanded a comprehensive investigation into the death of Anandu Aji, from Elikkulam in Kottayam.

The deceased was found hanging in a room at Sangeetha Tourist Home near the Central Railway Station  in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday, 9 October.

The death of a 26-year-old man has sparked a major political row in Kerala after a scheduled Instagram post surfaced, in which the deceased accused activists of the RSS of sexually abusing him during his childhood.

Describing his death as sad and unfortunate, RSS leaders said Anandu’s family had long been associated with the Sangh, and his late father, Aji, was also a karyakartha.

RSS seeks impartial inquiry

RSS Kottayam filed a written petition with the district police seeking an impartial inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death and the alleged suicide note that appeared on social media.

The organisation said the note contained dubious and baseless allegations against the Sangh and expressed confidence that an independent probe would reveal the truth and confirm the RSS’s innocence.

RSS members based in Kottayam told South First that Anandhu had been battling OCD, anxiety, panic attacks, and depression, and was undergoing regular counselling.

They said his final Instagram post appeared to have been scheduled and edited multiple times between September and early October, adding that technical verification is needed to confirm whether it was solely authored by him or accessed by others.

The Instagram post

In the post, which he described as his “dying declaration”, Anandhu alleged that he had been sexually abused by a person known to his family when he was between three and four years old and later by individuals at RSS-run camps.

He also made strong remarks against the RSS and urged other victims to speak up.

“I am having no ill-feelings towards anyone except for one person and one organisation. That organisation is RSS. I am experiencing a threat to my life caused by this organisation and that person,” Anandhu wrote.

He stated that he had been experiencing severe anxiety and panic attacks and was ending his life due to prolonged depressive episodes.

Allegations of abuse during childhood and at RSS camps

Anandhu named a person, referred to as “NM”, who lived near his old house, as the first perpetrator of sexual abuse.

According to him, this person was considered almost like a relative by his family.

The post then turned its focus on the RSS: “At the RSS camp also I was sexually abused. Never make any friends with anyone who is part of RSS. RSS is the one who walks with such poison. The real abusers,” the statement read.

“I don’t remember the name of the abuser. But in their ITC and OTC camps, I was sexually abused. Not only sexual abuse but also physical abuse has been committed. They abused many in their camps. At their camps, abuse is widespread. Many may not believe me because I have no proof,” he said.
