All expatriates should join welfare fund, says A.C. Moideen MLA

Chairman of the Legislative Committee on Non-Resident Keralites Welfare, A.C. Moideen MLA, has urged all expatriates to become members of the Expatriate Welfare Fund to ensure access to essential benefits, including pensions.

He emphasized that expatriate organizations must ensure their members are enrolled in the fund and submit membership applications without fail.

He was speaking at the committee’s sitting held at the Malappuram Collectorate Conference Hall.

Moideen said the longstanding demand to open a welfare fund board office in Malappuram — the district with the largest expatriate population in the state — would be considered sympathetically.

The committee also recommended setting up such offices in all districts.

He added that the state government has recognized the value of the expatriate community through initiatives like the Loka Kerala Sabha and that efforts are underway to collect accurate data on overseas Malayalis, potentially through local self-government institutions.

Committee member Dr. K.T. Jaleel MLA pointed out that despite Malappuram’s high expatriate population, many have not joined the fund.

MLAs E.T. Tyson and K.N. Unnikrishnan, officials from Norka, the Pravasi Welfare Board, and representatives from various expatriate organizations also participated and presented issues faced by expatriates.
