Synopsis: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said the Congress high command would call him and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to Delhi together to discuss “power-sharing”. Ruling out secret visits, he confirmed a 23 December Delhi trip for river-linking talks, key irrigation projects and meetings with Union ministers to safeguard Karnataka’s interests.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Friday, 19 December, said the Congress high command had conveyed its position on “power-sharing arrangements” to both him and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and that they would travel to Delhi together when summoned.
Speaking to reporters at his Sadashivanagar residence, Shivakumar dismissed speculation about secret visits to the national capital.
“I will not go to Delhi secretly. I will go along with the CM when the high command calls us. We will inform the media when we travel,” he said, responding to questions on possible meetings with party leaders in Delhi.
On the ongoing protests over alleged misuse of central agencies, Shivakumar said the Enforcement Directorate chargesheet in the National Herald case had been quashed and that only one FIR remained. “We are protesting to tell the world how we are being harassed,” he said.
Shivakumar confirmed that he would be in Delhi on Tuesday, 23 December, to attend a meeting convened by the Union Minister for Jal Shakti on river-linking projects. During the visit, he plans to raise key irrigation issues concerning Karnataka, including the Mahadayi, Upper Krishna, Mekedatu and Upper Bhadra projects.
“I have also sought appointments with the Union Environment Minister and the Union Urban Development Minister to discuss state projects. I am meeting all of them to protect Karnataka’s interests,” Shivakumar said, adding that he hoped to meet PM Modi along withstate MPs if time permitted.
Responding to queries about blessings received from Naga Sadhus at his residence, Shivakumar said it was natural for saints and elders to bless public figures.
“They came home and blessed me. We cannot say no to people who come home,” he said.
