With the list of nominees from the BJP and astounding poll strategies firmly in mind for the impending Parliamentary elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi strategically chose Karnataka’s Kalaburagi as his launchpad.

Kalaburagi, a stronghold of the Kharges, notably the bastion of All-India Congress Committee (AICC) President Mallikarjun Kharge, served as the ideal platform for Modi to herald the clarion call for the Lok Sabha elections.

Making a sarcastic reference to AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge’s recent remarks, Prime Minister Modi quipped, “Your own leader said ‘ab ki baar Modi sarkar’ in the Parliament. I can understand the anger and outburst against the Congress government. Congress is such a party that in whatever new incarnation they come in, their work doesn’t change. That’s why the people of Karnataka have awakened.”

Modi attacks the ruling party

Addressing a massive gathering in Kalaburagi on Saturday, 16 March, Prime Minister Modi appealed to the voters of Karnataka not to let the Congress party “open its account in the state” in the upcoming Parliamentary elections. Modi declared that the BJP wants to turn Karnataka into an agricultural and industrial hub. “This is Modi’s guarantee,” he asserted.

The Prime Minister remarked that for any government to falter so swiftly after assuming power signifies that the people have awakened to the truth. “People sometimes think that they should be given a chance, but they won’t change. There is no law and order in Karnataka. Anti-social elements are receiving open support. In this time of need, the Congress is busy with its own agenda,” Modi charged.

Comparing the ruling Congress in the state to a cuckoo, the Prime Minister said, “The cuckoo might lose its black colour, but the Congress will not come out of corruption. For those who carry out family politics, corruption is oxygen. Without corruption, they can’t even take a breath,” he lambasted the ruling Congress government in the state.

He continued, “They issued big slogans before the polls and after the polls, they filled their pockets. Karnataka has become the ATM for the expenditures of a family and the Congress party. The hard-earned money of Kannadigas is being supplied to fill a few pockets and the treasury.”

The Prime Minister added, “The situation in Karnataka is worsening. The Congress assured free power but farmers are now complaining that pumpsets are not functioning as there is no power. The Modi government had given 55 farmers funds and the previous BJP government added ₹4,000 to it. The Congress government has stopped it.”

‘Congress government is looting’

Modi charged that the scholarships of youths have also been stopped. The “loot” of the Congress government is so much that there is no money for small development works, he said. “MLAs have been told that there is no money. Under these circumstances, can the Congress government govern? Carry out welfare in the state? Can it fulfil dreams?” Modi asked.

“Congress has come to know that they can never come to power again and they are now indulging in the loot. Will you (people) allow them to loot? It is necessary that your voice reaches the Parliament. The BJP MPs are the protection layer to prevent corruption,” Modi said, adding, “Let every move of the Congress government reach me and during the tenure of Modi, no one will dare loot. This servant is praying before you, ensuring victory of BJP in all seats.”

“I have always respected the identity of Karnataka. I spoke about democratic principles in foreign countries taught by Basavanna. Anubhav Mantap is the inspiration behind the idea of naming Bharat Mantapam at the new Parliament. The G20 Summit was also held here. The respect and honour of Karnataka has gone up,” Modi asserted.

“Under the Ayushman Yojna in Karnataka, 80 lakh free treatment up to ₹5 lakh was given to women and the elderly. For 75 lakh houses, tap connections and water supply have been given. More than 40 lakh LPG connections have been given,” he announced.

Listing more benefits, the Prime Minister added, “Thousands of crores of funds were given to the Kalyan Karnataka Regional Development Board when the BJP was in power. The farmers who reaped toor dal were given good prices. Around ₹6,000 crore has been released for the Kalaburagi-Raichur six-lane greenfield highway. To ensure good railway connectivity between Kalaburagi and Bengaluru, a Vande Bharat and passenger train have been introduced. A 110 km stretch of Kalaburagi-Bidar railway lane in Humnabad-Gulbarga section has been laid. This is the first railway lane after independence in this region.”

The Prime Minister stated that he has been touring four states in South India for two days and everywhere, the people are looking up to the BJP with great hope.
