Kiccha Sudeep on Renukaswamy murder allegedly by Darshan

Speaking to the media during the promotion of his upcoming film ‘Ramarasa,’ Kannada actor Kiccha Sudeep on Sunday, 16 June said that his heart goes out to murder victim Renukaswamy’s family.

Renukaswamy, a resident of Chitradurga, allegedly commented on the social media account of Pavithra Gowda, a small-time actor and a friend of actor Darshan, accusing her of creating a rift between the actor and his wife. He also allegedly used “indecent language” and posted offensive messages, according to police sources.

Following that, Darshan and gang of over 10 people allegedly kidnapped Renukaswamy from his hometown and brought him to Bengaluru where he was tortured and beaten to death. After retrieving his body, police arrested Darshan, Gowda and eleven others, who are currently in police custody.

Speaking about the murder to the media, actor Sudeep said Renukaswamy’s family should get justice. According to media reports, he said, “My heart goes out to the victim’s family. The family – his wife and unborn child – deserves justice. I know from the media that police are working hard and doing their job.”

He said he wants justice for Renukaswamy’s family not just as an actor but also a common man. However, he also said that it would be wrong to support or condemn anyone.

Developments in the case

A court in Bengaluru on Saturday, 15 June, extended the police custody of Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, his friend Pavithra Gowda and eleven others, who have been arrested in connection with the Renukaswamy murder case, by five more days.

They were produced before the court as their six-day police custody will end on 16 June. As the court would be shut on Sundays and Mondays (Bakrid) – a public holiday, the police decided to produce them before Judge Vishwanath C Goudar. With this, Darshan, Gowda and others will continue to be in police custody till 20 June.

The investigation team is believed to have gathered enough evidence, including CCTV footage, which could establish that Darshan was present during the alleged assault on Renukaswamy, leading to his death, sources said, adding that the victim had suffered multiple injuries on his body.

According to sources, police had taken Darshan to his RR Nagar residence on 14 June for spot ‘mahazar’ and have reportedly seized certain things from there, including clothes.
