The survivor is undergoing treatment in a Mysuru hospital.
Synopsis: The woman alleged that she was given a spiked drink and raped, before the homestay owner denied her access to the outside world for three days. The tourist, somehow, convinced the owner that she was going to Mysuru and informed the US Embassy of the incident.
A US national was allegedly drugged and raped at a homestay in Kodagu, police said on Wednesday, 22 April.
Two people have been arrested in connection with the incident, including Vrujesh Kumar, an employee at the homestay who is from Jharkhand.
The owner of the homestay at Kutta was also arrested for allegedly preventing the tourist from contacting authorities by blocking her Wi-Fi access for three days, to cover-up the incident.
She managed the escape from the homestay after convincing him that she was going to Mysuru. After regaining communication access, she informed the US Embassy about the incident. The Embassy contacted the Mysuru police, and a case was registered.
The woman alleged that she was given a spiked drink and sexually assaulted.
The accused people have been remanded in judicial custody until 3 May.
The tourist has been shifted to a private hospital in Mysuru for treatment.
