In a major step against drug abuse, Udupi district has launched Anti-Drug Committees in schools and colleges, uniting students, faculty, and police under the slogan “From intoxication to awakening – our resolve for a drug-free India.”
Inaugurated by Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar, each committee will include the principal, two faculty members, three students, and a police nodal officer.
The committees must meet monthly and organize at least one awareness event. Police officials will participate regularly to maintain coordination.
Udupi ranks third in Karnataka for drug-related cases, prompting this proactive initiative. The SP also assured anonymity for students or institutions aiding in identifying drug networks.
