Synopsis: Karnataka police have booked three men for allegedly assaulting a youth in a suspected case of moral policing after he was seen walking with a Muslim woman in Nelamangala taluk of Bengaluru Rural district. The accused have been identified as Tahreek Pasha, Sohel Pasha and Syed Kareem. In her complaint, the woman, Kausar, alleged that the incident left her so distressed that she attempted suicide but survived.
Karnataka police have booked three men for allegedly assaulting a youth in a case of suspected moral policing after he was seen walking with a Muslim woman in Nelamangala taluk of Bengaluru Rural district.
The incident allegedly took place within the jurisdiction of the Dobbaspet police station. The accused have been identified as Tahreek Pasha, Sohel Pasha and Syed Kareem. Police said they are absconding, and efforts are underway to trace and arrest them.
According to a complaint filed by the woman, Kausar, at the Dobbaspet police station, she was walking with her friend Yashwanth when the three accused allegedly stopped them, abused them and assaulted Yashwanth.
The complaint further alleged that the accused filmed the assault and circulated the video on WhatsApp. The video later spread to other social media platforms.
Kausar stated in her complaint that she was severely distressed following the incident and attempted suicide. She survived the attempt.
After the video went viral, the police initially registered a suo motu case. Following Kausar’s complaint, the Dobbaspet police registered a First Information Report under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched a manhunt for the accused.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and that further legal action will be taken based on the evidence collected.
