BS Yediyurappa last speech Karnataka Assembly

The mother of a minor survivor who had filed a sexual assault case against former Karnataka chief minister BS Yediyurappa wrote to the state women’s commission on Monday, 29 April, alleging lapses in police investigation.

“… the CID (Criminal Investigation Department) is violating the stringent POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) laws by not arresting the POCSO case accused, the powerful ex-CM BS Yediyurappa and the sexual pervert is roaming freely,” she wrote in the letter.

She requested the Women’s Commission to interfere in the case and order the immediate arrest of the accused, adding “make sure that unbiased investigation is done to ensure justice for my minor daughter.”

‘Trying to influence witnesses’

She also accused the former chief minister of trying to influence the witnesses in the case.

“The powerful accused is using his influence to manipulate the witnesses by offering hefty money,” she said.

She also sought action against the state government, the state home minister and some leaders for “spreading fake stories” against her and her daughter.

“ …(it) has made the society and the system looking at us in despise and doubt,” she said.

This has caused emotional, mental, and social tortures on us for raising our voice against sexual abuses relentlessly from past nine years,” she said signing the letter as “An unstoppable warrior mother”.

The case stems from a woman’s complaint before Sadashivanagar Police in Bengaluru alleging that Yediyurappa molested her minor daughter on 2 February, 2024.

The complainant protested outside the Sadashivanagar police station for hours on 14 March, demanding an FIR be filed. After nearly five hours of reluctance, the police filed the FIR against 81-year-old Yediyurappa.

Senior-most Lingayat leader of the BJP in Karnataka, Yediyurappa has been booked under sections 8 of the POCSO Act and 354 (A) of the IPC.

The minor is already a rape survivor.

BS Yediyurappa denied allegations

Responding to the case, Yediyurappa had said the mother and daughter used to visit him.

“The mother and daughter often used to come here but we did not entertain them,” he had told reporters.

“Once when she was in tears, we called her inside and asked about her problems. She complained of injustice and other things. I telephoned the police commissioner (Bengaluru City) and asked him to look into their complaint. I sent them to the commissioner’s office. Thereafter, she started to create a nuisance,” the former chief minister said.

Yediyurappa said she did not seem to be in good health and he felt there was no use in talking to her.

“Now, I am told that an FIR has been registered. We will face the law. This is an example of what you get in return for trying to help someone in need. When she said that she was in difficulty, I gave her money also,” he added.
