HD Revanna and Prajwal Revanna

The first police complaint in the shocking Hassan sex scandal, that has been rocking JD(S) in Karnataka for nearly a week now, was registered on Sunday, 28 April.

The first survivor in the case to step forward and file a complaint is a 47-year-old woman who worked at the residence of JD(S) leader Prajwal Revanna’s father and Holenarasipura MLA HD Revanna. An FIR has been filed against the father-son duo.

Prajwal Revanna is the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and the BJP-led NDA’s candidate in Hassan for Lok Sabha elections 2024.

In her complaint, which led to an FIR being registered at the Holenarasipura Police Station, the survivor named both father and son, alleging sexual harassment and abuse by them.

Police have registered a case under Sections 354A, 354D, 506, and 509 of the IPC based on the complaint.

The Karnataka government on Saturday, 27 April, set up a special investigative team to probe allegations of sexual abuse against Prajwal Revanna, who is the sitting MP from Hassan.

Details of the complaint

The woman in the complaint said HD Revanna and Prajwal used to sexually assault women employed at their home.

She said: “Four months after I joined work, Revanna would keep calling me to his room. There were six women workers in the house and everyone said they were scared when Prajwal Revanna came home. The male workers in the house also cautioned the women workers to be careful.”

The survivor added: “Whenever HD Revanna’s wife, Bhavani, wasn’t there, he used to call me to the store room and touch inappropriately. He used to remove saree pins and sexually assault.”

The complainant also alleged that Prajwal Revanna would make video calls repeatedly and spoke indecently to her daughter. She added that she would get video calls and the accused would use vulgar language.

“Scared, my daughter blocked his number,” she said in the complaint. The survivor also gave chilling details of how Prajwal Revanna would sexually harass her while she was working in the kitchen or on the pretext of getting a massage.

The abuse, she said, compelled her to quit her job at HD Revanna’s residence.

When Prajwal’s pictures and videos went viral, the complainant noticed the pictures of a few of her colleagues who worked there. In her complaint, she said the videos made her husband question her fidelity, causing mental trauma. She also added that she has not filed a complaint earlier due to physical and mental trauma and the fear for her life.
