The Supreme Court on Monday, 11 November, dismissed the bail plea of suspended JD(S) leader and former Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna who approached it after he was denied bail by the Karnataka High Court in sexual assault cases against him.
An apex court bench of Justices Bela M Trivedi and Satish Chandra Sharma dismissed the matter.
The bench also refused to comment when senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for Prajwal Revanna, requested it to allow the application again in six months, according to LiveLaw.
On 21 October, the Karnataka High Court rejected one bail and two anticipatory bail petitions filed by Prajwal Revanna in three separate sexual assault cases against him.
A single-judge bench headed by Justice M Nagaprasanna rejected the petitions. Meanwhile, the court is yet to pronounce its order on another anticipatory bail application.
Prajwal Revanna has been booked in three rape cases, one sexual harassment case and one case of outraging the modesty of women. He has been under judicial custody since 31 May, 2024.
JD(S) leader Prajwal was arrested on 31 May, soon after he returned from Germany where he was holed up after Karnataka police started investigating sexual abuse allegations against him.
A ‘Blue Corner Notice’ seeking information on his whereabouts had earlier been issued by Interpol, following a request by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) via the CBI.
A Special Court for Elected Representatives had issued an arrest warrant against Prajwal on 18 May, following an application moved by the SIT.
Prajwal failed in his bid to retain the Hassan parliamentary constituency in the recent Lok Sabha polls.
He was arrested based on a case registered against him in Holenarasipura in Hassan district on 28 April. He was accused of sexually harassing a 47-year-old former maid.
He is listed as accused number two, while his father Revanna, is the primary accused. Revanna is also accused of sexually harassing the cook at his house. There are also charges of rape against him.
Later, three more FIRs were filed against the former MP.
The cases of sexual abuse came to light after pen drives containing explicit videos allegedly involving Prajwal were reportedly circulated in Hassan, ahead of Lok Sabha polls there on 26 April.
The Karnataka government formed the SIT to probe the cases against Prajwal on the recommendation of the Karnataka State Commission for Women chairperson Nagalakshmi Chowdhary, who wrote to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to investigate the matter.
