Summons have been issued to former Karnataka Chief Minister and senior BJP leader, BS Yediyurappa, to appear before Fast Track Court-1 on 15 March in connection with a POCSO case.
The case involves allegations made by a woman, who accused Yediyurappa of molesting her 17-year-old daughter at his Bengaluru residence.
The woman, who has since passed away, also claimed that Yediyurappa attempted to silence the issue by offering money.
Her complaint, filed on 14 March, 2024, resulted in an FIR under Section 8 of the POCSO Act and Section 354(A) of the Indian Penal Code, which pertains to sexual harassment.
The investigation was initially conducted by the Sadashivanagar police in Bengaluru before the case was transferred to the Crime Investigation Department (CID) for further inquiry, following an order from the Karnataka Director General of Police, Alok Mohan.
On 27 June, 2024, the CID filed a charge sheet in the special court handling POCSO cases.
Yediyurappa has consistently denied the charges. He claimed that the mother and daughter had often visited his residence but were not entertained.
He added that on one occasion, when the woman was in tears, he called her inside and helped her approach the police commissioner to resolve her grievances. He further suggested that the accusations were part of a conspiracy against him.
In response to earlier developments, the Karnataka High Court had issued orders restraining the CID from arresting Yediyurappa in the case.
On 14 June, 2024, the court directed Yediyurappa to appear before the CID, which he did on 17 June for questioning.
Despite the non-bailable arrest warrant issued by the special court, the High Court’s order prevented his immediate arrest.
The case remains ongoing, with Yediyurappa scheduled to appear in court on 15 March, 2025
