Special Action Force Undergoes Training in Mangaluru to Tackle Communal Unrest

In a move to boost readiness and coordination, the Mangaluru City Police conducted a special training session for the Special Action Force (SAF) on Wednesday at Nehru Maidan, Mangaluru. Officers from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Shivamogga districts participated in the session, which featured hands-on training in the use of anti-riot guns, stun shells, and other crowd-control equipment.

A total of 95 personnel from the operational wing took part, while select intelligence officers received specialised instruction on social media monitoring for tracking hate speech and provocative content. Commissioner of Police and DIG SAF Sudheer Kumar Reddy said the training is part of a broader effort to maintain peace in sensitive regions. The SAF, inaugurated on 13 June by Home Minister Dr. G Parameshwara, consists of three companies and is headquartered in Mangaluru under the Western Range IGP Amit Singh. The force is tasked with preventing and responding to communal incidents.
