Raid on illegal sand mining

The incident reportedly took place after the official and her team discovered illegal sand mining operations. During the raid, the MLA’s son’s aides allegedly attempted to assault the official.

Following the confrontation, a phone call recorded via an aide’s mobile phone captured the MLA’s son insulting the officer using derogatory language.

MLA Sangamesh acknowledged that his son had used foul language but justified his actions by claiming that the official had demanded a bribe.

The MLA stated, “My son doesn’t just abuse people for no reason. Do you think he’s crazy? Our party workers did take soil, that’s true. This officer demanded a bribe, which made my son angry, so he used foul language.”

Political leaders condemn incident

BJP leaders, including CT Ravi, condemned the incident, calling it a reflection of the government’s failing law enforcement system.

Ravi, in a statement, emphasised the rising cases of suicides among government employees due to a lack of a conducive working environment and undue pressure. He added, “No matter who commits the mistake, it is still a mistake, and action must be taken against the guilty.”

BJP state president BY Vijayendra, also expressed his dismay over the incident, labeling it as a disgrace to democratic society.

He criticised the Congress-led state government for its inaction in addressing the issue, claiming that the government’s silence indicated its tacit endorsement of such behaviour.

“Under the Congress government, atrocities against women continue to rise, and now even female officers are not safe. The lack of action against the MLA’s son raises serious questions about who this government is truly protecting,” Yediyurappa said.
