A second case of sexual assault was registered against JD(S) MLC Suraj Revanna on Tuesday, 25 June, at Holenarasipura police station in Hassan district. This comes a day after the fourth FIR was registered against Suraj’s brother, Prajwal Revanna for sexual abuse.
The case was registered based on a complaint by a close aide of Suraj Revanna. Incidentally, Suraj’s aide had earlier filed a complaint on behalf of the MLC against a JD(S) worker, apparently to protect him.
The first case of sodomy was registered against Suraj on Saturday, 22 June, for allegedly sexually abusing a party worker a few days ago and has been booked under different sections of the IPC, including 377 (unnatural offences), 342 (wrongful confinement), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).
Suraj was questioned at Hassan’s CEN police station overnight on Sunday before he was arrested, according to the sources. The case was transferred by the Karnataka government to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on the same day, for further investigation.
A Special MP/MLA Special Court, hearing the request of CID on 24 June, passed the order granting custody.
“The process of registering the second FIR is on against Suraj Revanna,” a senior police officer of Hassan told PTI.
The complainant was identified as a close associate of the JD(S) legislator.
The complainant in the second case was also an accused in the first case filed against Suraj Revanna.

A 27-year-old man had complained to the police that Suraj Revanna, the eldest son of Holenarasipura MLA HD Revanna, sexually abused him at his farmhouse in Ghannikada on 16 June.
However, Suraj Revanna (37), the grandson of former PM HD Deve Gowda and the nephew of Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy, categorically refuted the charge. Suraj also alleged that the man had filed a false complaint against him in a bid to extort ₹5 crore from him.
On 21 June, police registered a case of extortion against the JD(S) worker on a complaint by Suraj Revanna’s close aide Shivakumar. Shivakumar had alleged that the party worker was trying to extort money from Suraj Revanna by threatening to lodge a false case of sexual assault against him.
It has been alleged that while the man demanded ₹5 crore from Suraj Revanna, later it was reduced to ₹2 crore.
A medical doctor, Suraj is the grandson of former Prime Minister and JD(S) patriarch HD Deve Gowda and son of Holenarasipura MLA HD Revanna.
The MLC is the elder brother of former Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, who is also in police custody for allegedly sexually assaulting several women in Hassan and filming them.
Suraj and Prajwal’s parents, Revanna and Bhavani, are out on bail on charges of kidnapping a woman who had figured in one of the huge cache of explicit videos showing many women being sexually assaulted, allegedly by Prajwal.
Prajwal had contested the 2024 Lok Sabha election as the NDA candidate as his party JD(S) formed an alliance with the BJP in September last year.
