Bangalore Bengaluru Kempegowda International Airport
Prices of private cabs and other cab services like Uber and Ola have always been a point of discussion for Bengaluru citizens.
More so in the case of to and fro to the Kempegowda International Airport.
An X user recently shared how her flight ticket from Pune to Bengaluru was ₹3,500, but the cost of her Uber ride to reach her home was ₹2,000.
Sharing a screenshot of the Uber app, the X user Manasvi wrote: “I booked flight for 3.5k from Pune to Bangalore.
And then, a cab for 2k from Bangalore airport to my home.”
However, the distance that had to be travelled was not shared by the user.
The post has now gone viral, catching the attention of many people, from and beyond Bengaluru. While many related to the woes sharing their experiences, a few suggested taking public transport, like the BMTC buses.
A person with the username Adi shared how the cost of travel from Bengaluru to Chennai which was ₹1,799 was less than the cab price of travelling from HSR to KIA (Airport) which was over ₹2,000 owing to the surge pricing.
He further wrote: “I just decided to plan 3 hrs ahead and take the bus. No wonder Vande Bharat at 4hr s 25 mins is a much better option and it takes you from point to point within cities also!”
Atrocious. I was noticing this last month – Bengaluru to Chennai was ₹ 1799 and HSR to KIA was ₹ 2000+ ridiculous surge pricing. I just decided to plan 3 hrs ahead and take the bus. No wonder Vande Bharat at 4hr s 25 mins is a much better option and it takes you from point to…
A user by the name Aryaman Chandra added, “I’m pretty sure the car ride took more time than the plane itself. It took me 2hrs to reach the airport last time which was less than my flight time.”

While X user aniambesten shared how this is an issue in almost every city worldwide.
Sharing his experience from travel in London, he wrote: “This is pretty much standard in every major city in the world. My flight from Greece to London costed £50 and from Heathrow to home would cost around £125. So nothing new!”

Meanwhile, another set of people suggested the user to take public transport, especially the BTMC Vayu Vajra buses.
Citing their availability at the airport, a user wrote, “BLR airport has awesome Volvo bus service. 250 rs to central blr… no waiting time even at 2 AM.”

Co-founder of Citizens for Bengaluru and a public transport advocate Srinivas Alavilli too suggested the passengers can take the buses which are available at the exit terminals.
Next time use @BMTC_BENGALURU for a grand sum of ₹280 – save money and save the planet by using public transport!
A user Anil, question if the user has tried opting for the BMTC buses, he says, ” Vayu Vajra? It’s meant for returning pax! Really affordable unlike Uber. No tension, no hassle, whatever the time. ”
Didn’t you try @BMTC_BENGALURU Vayu Vajra? It’s meant for returning pax! Really affordable unlike the Uber. No tension, no hassle, whatever the time. @sandeeprrao1991
Another user suggested the user should have taken the bus at least till Hebbal.
