Synopsis: The National Investigation Agency has arrested two absconding accused in the 2022 murder of BJP Yuva Morcha leader Praveen Nettaru. Abdul Nasir P, alias Nasir, and Naushad were apprehended in Kochi and Hosur, respectively. They are accused of sheltering the alleged cadres of the banned PFI accused of killing Nettaru.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday, 12 July arrested two absconding accused in the 2022 murder of BJP Yuva Morcha leader Praveen Nettaru, taking the total number of arrests in the case to 24. Three accused remain absconding.

Abdul Nasir P, alias Nasir, and Naushad were apprehended in Kochi, Kerala, and Hosur, Tamil Nadu, respectively. The arrests were made following inputs received from the Andhra Pradesh Police, the agency said.

The two had been named in the NIA’s chargesheet on allegations that they sheltered the assailants accused of murdering Nettaru in Karnataka’s Dakshina Kannada district. The NIA has alleged that the assailants were cadres of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI). The two have been booked under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The Special Court for NIA cases in Bengaluru had earlier issued Look Out Circulars and open-dated warrants against the two men, and the agency had announced a reward of ₹4 lakh each for information leading to their arrest.

The investigation is continuing to trace the remaining absconding accused.
