Arrest

The team probing the sexual assault charges against Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna on Sunday, 12 May, arrested two persons in connection with the leak and circulation of explicit videos involving the JD(S) leader, according to official sources.

Two persons — Chetan and Likith Gowda — were arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT)  in Hassan, and the duo are reportedly associated with the BJP in the district.

Officials recorded their statements and conducted spot inspections at their residences in Yelagunda and Shravanabelagola, respectively.

USB drives containing the alleged explicit videos involving Prajwal Revanna, who was also the BJP-JD(S) joint candidate from Hassan, were circulated in the district a few days ahead of the second phase of Lok Sabha polls that took place on 26 April.

Several people have been arrested in connection with the case ever since the videos and news of the storage devices emerged.

The case against the Revannas

The 33-year-old Prajwal Revanna is the grandson of JD(S) patriarch and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda. He is facing multiple charges of sexual assault against women.

The allegations of sexual abuse against him have kicked up a political storm in the state, with the ruling Congress and BJP-JD(S) engaged in a slugfest.

The Congress government in the state set up the SIT to probe the case, following demands for it from several quarters.

The Opposition — led by BJP — is continuing its demand that the case be handed over to the CBI for a fair investigation.

Prajwal, who purportedly travelled abroad on 27 April, has had a “Blue Corner Notice” issued in his name.

The SIT clarified on Sunday that they would not be going abroad to locate or apprehend him.

Meanwhile, a Special Court for Elected Representatives in Bengaluru last week adjourned the bail plea hearing of Prajwal’s father HD Revanna in connection with the case to Monday.

The 66-year-old HD Revanna — who has also been accused of sexual abuse — is the son of former prime minister HD Deve Gowda, and has already been arrested.
