JD(S) leaders HD Deve Gowda and HD Kumaraswamy obtained a gag order from the City Civil and Sessions Court in Bengaluru restricting media houses from reporting their name with regard to the sexual abuse allegations against Prajwal Revanna.

“It is ordered that, the defendants are temporarily restrained from publishing any news item by falsely depicting the plaintiffs, by showing their marping photos, without any substantive evidence against them, with an intention to unnecessarily tarnishing their image and reputation in the public at large, till next date of hearing,” the court order said.

‘Truth can be published’

The order dated 4 May also said that the media houses are not restricted from publishing or broadcasting “any news, if they think that, truth is their defence, and they have substantial piece of evidence to defend themselves”.

In the petition, Deve Gowda and Kumaraswamy said there were no allegations against them in the alleged videos or the complaints but, their pictures were being used in the media reports.

The court observed that since they are close relatives of Prajwal, “they can only make request to restrain the defendants from unnecessarily depicting and making their references..”.

Prajwal is the grandson of Deve Gowda and a nephew of Kumaraswamy.

Prajwal sexual abuse case

Prajwal and his father HD Revanna, a former Karnataka minister, were booked by police on Sunday on charges of sexual harassment and criminal intimidation based on a complaint from a woman, who worked in their household.

Faced with unrelenting attacks from the Congress and other political parties, the JD(S), an ally of the BJP, has suspended Prajwal.

Prajwal is accused of assaulting several women, recording the act and threatening them.

JD(S) MLA HD Revanna was arrested by sleuths of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Saturday, 4 May in a kidnapping case linked to sexual abuse allegations against his son Prajwal, officials said. He was arrested soon after a court here rejected his anticipatory bail plea.

Karnataka Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara on Sunday said a “Blue Corner” notice has been issued and Interpol’s help is being taken to bring NDA’s Hassan Lok Sabha candidate Prajwal Revanna back to India.
