The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) examination of the mobile phone and other electronic devices seized from former Hassan MP and rape convict Prajwal Revanna’s cell at Bengaluru Central Prison, Parappana Agrahara, has found multiple pornographic videos on the mobile phone.
A separate FSL-based report says the mobile phone and pen drive together contained around 173 files, including Kannada, Hindi, English and other-language films, web series and “other” videos. Some files were password-protected and were reportedly opened during forensic examination. The devices were also found to have been actively used.
The phone, SIM card and charger were recovered during a CCB raid on 11 August from the cell occupied by Revanna and undertrial prisoner Prathap Rai. Police subsequently traced how the phone and SIM allegedly entered the prison through a network involving inmates and prison staff.
Investigators say the seized SIM had been active since March. The phone was allegedly routed through inmate Manjunath and prison warder Prakash Gawade, while another inmate, Mohammed Tauseef, allegedly carried a SIM card into jail concealed in his mouth after it was wrapped in carbon paper.
The probe has widened into a larger mobile-phone smuggling racket inside Parappana Agrahara. Bengaluru Police have arrested nine people in three related cases, including three prison warders and four inmates.
Investigators say two warders may have facilitated the entry of around 20 mobile phones over the past year, with phones worth roughly 10,000 outside allegedly changing hands for ₹75,000 to ₹2 lakh inside prison.
Revanna and Rai were taken into police custody for questioning and were sent back to prison on 10 September. Police are still examining the role of other prison staff, including personnel responsible for frisking inmates.
