Mallikarjun Kharge and Narendra Modi

A day after Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge warned Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar that his statement on the Shakti scheme would give a chance for the BJP to criticise them, the BJP has done just that, with Prime Minister Modi taking to X to hammer the Congress on its guarantee schemes.

His post on X read: “The Congress Party is realising the hard way that making unreal promises is easy but implementing them properly is tough or impossible. Campaign after campaign they promise things to the people, which they also know they will never be able to deliver. Now, they stand badly exposed in front of the people!” #FakePromisesOfCongress”

Modi went on to write that in Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana, the developmental trajectory and fiscal health is turning from bad to worse.

‘Guarentees lie unfulfilled’

The post further read, “Their so-called Guarantees lie unfulfilled, which is a terrible deceit upon the people of these states. The victims of such politics are the poor, youngsters, farmers and women, who are not only denied the benefits of these promises but also see their existing schemes diluted.”

He cautioned the people of the country to be vigilant against the Congress-sponsored culture of fake promises, and that there is a growing realisation across India that a vote for Congress is a vote for non-governance, poor economics and unparalleled loot.

Focusing on the states Congress is in power now and earlier as well,  he said,  “In Karnataka, Congress is busier in intra-party politics and loot instead of even bothering to deliver on development. Not only that, they are also going to roll back existing schemes. In Himachal Pradesh, the salaries of Government workers are not paid on time. In Telangana, farmers are waiting for the waiver they promised. Previously, in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, they promised certain allowances which were never implemented for five years. There are numerous such examples of how the Congress works.”

Kharge hits back

Hitting back at the prime minister, Mallikarjun Kharge took to X saying that Modi before pointing fingers, should note that, “MODI KI GUARANTEE is a cruel joke on 140 Crore Indians!”

He further added, “Lies, Deceit, Fakery, Loot & Publicity are the 5 adjectives which best describe your Govt! Your drumbeating regarding a 100-day plan was a cheap PR stunt!”

He questioned the promise of 2 crore jobs per year, “Why is India’s Unemployment Rate at a 45-year high? Why are stampedes witnessed wherever there are vacancies for a handful of jobs? Who is responsible for 70 paper leaks in 7 years? Who snatched 5 Lakh Govt jobs by selling stake in PSUs?”

On how the economy is run, he asked the prime minister, “Rupee is at an all-time low. Is it in the ICU or in Margdarshak Mandal? Your Govt has borrowed ₹150 lakh+ crores in the past 10 years, amounting to a debt of ₹1.5 lakh for every Indian. MSMEs have been destroyed through DeMO + Flawed GST.”

He then took potshots at the growing economic inequality saying it is at a 100-year-high. “Average Growth is below 6% in this lost decade, while during UPA it was 8%. Private Investment is at a 20-year low, while average growth in Manufacturing is just 3.1% in the past decade, while it was 7.85 during Congress-UPA, flopping tall claims of ‘Make in India’ !”

‘Karnataka model of Congress guarantees’

Randeep Singh Surjewala also came out in defence of the Karnataka government’s guarantee schemes. Addressing the prime minister, he said, “Responsibility of office one holds is paramount in Public life. This is a respectful reminder to that solemn obligation.”

He went on to add that Narendra Modi must appreciate the “astounding & path-breaking ‘Public Welfare Guarantees that the Congress Govt of Karnataka has implemented. The ‘Karnataka Model of Congress Guarantees’ has become a case study of accountable governance with empathy, compassion & inclusiveness. I hope BJP will implement 50% of these in any BJP-ruled State.”

In the post, he explained how each guarantee is being implemented adding, “This is how the Congress Govt of Karnataka transfers over ₹ 52,000 crore annually in the Bank Accounts of fellow Kannadigas as part of our Congress Guarantees.”

‘Congress’ unparalleled track record’

KC Venugopal also took to X to hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “The uncrowned champion of puffery, misdirection and unfulfilled promises has the audacity to question Congress’ unparalleled track record of delivering welfare,” he wrote.

Questioning Modi on Ache Din and Amrit Kaal, he explains what the Congress is doing in Karnataka and Telangana. “Our government in Karnataka, on the other hand, is routinely delivering ₹2000 to 1.2 crore women. We are ensuring food security through the Anna Bhagya Scheme which the Centre opposed. Our Telangana Government has taken the burden of debt and misery away from lakhs of farmers. Three crore women of Karnataka have experienced newfound freedom due to the free bus travel guaranteed by the Shakti scheme.”

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah too defended his state and took on the prime minister in a series of posts on X. He accused Modi of making false accusations against the Karnataka government and urged him to focus on fulfilling the promises made in his party’s manifesto instead of engaging in pointless debates.

“Prime Minister @narendramodi, you have been repeatedly making false accusations against the Karnataka government. Let’s put an end to this “tu tu, main main” (pointless) debate. Based on the manifesto released by your party before the last two Lok Sabha elections, let’s have a public discussion. How many of the promises you made in the manifesto have you fulfilled? Let’s discuss this publicly and let the intelligent people of the country decide what is true and what is false. 5/5″
