In a fiery address at Maharaja College grounds in Mysuru City on Sunday, 14 April, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a blistering attack on the Congress-led INDIA bloc ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Accompanied by prominent leaders including JD(S) supremo and former prime minister HD Deve Gowda and BJP Parliamentary Board member and former chief minister BS Yediyurappa, Modi’s presence marked a significant political juncture as he shared the stage with JD(S) leaders for the first time in a poll rally in Karnataka.

The alliance partners’ candidates, leaders and workers from Mysore-Kodagu, Mandya, Chamarajanagara and Hassan were present at the rally.

Modi’s appeal to voters to support  NDA

Addressing the massive crowd, the prime minister expressed gratitude to Deve Gowda, hailing him as the senior-most politician in Indian politics.

He rallied support, emphasizing the need for a BJP-led government for the next five years, highlighting key promises from the BJP manifesto such as the construction of three crore houses for the poor, free ration for the impoverished, and free healthcare for senior citizens above the age of 70 under Ayushman Bharat.

PM Modi showcased BJP’s achievements in transforming India, promising further development in infrastructure, technology, and innovation.

He stressed the importance of regional languages and promoting them and the preservation of cultural heritage sites like Mysuru, Hampi, and Badami, which will provide new opportunities for tourism and employment in Karnataka.

The prime minister appealed for support for the BJP-led NDA alliance, citing the experience and guidance of leaders like Deve Gowda and Yediyurappa in Karnataka’s development.

He also applauded the development works carried out by Krishna Raja Wadiyar, calling them an inspiration to India.

‘Congress the sultan of tukde-tukde gang’

However, Modi didn’t shy away from attacking the Congress, accusing it of divisive politics and compromising national interests.

Calling the Congress the “sultan of tukde-tukde gang”, he criticized the party leaders for their alleged disrespect towards national symbols and their appeasement politics.

Modi warned against Congress’ alleged attempts to undermine traditional Hindu culture and values.

“Congress leaders do not lose an opportunity to hamper the country’s image on foreign lands. The country gives a befitting reply to the rivals. Congress works with a political wing of such an organisation, which has been banned,” he alleged.

Modi condemned the Siddaramaiah government’s alleged appeasement policies and mismanagement of resources. He also highlighted issues such as the water crisis in Bengaluru and accused Congress of corruption and misgovernance.

“Congress only knows to create problems and cheat,” he charged, adding that the party turned Karnataka into their personal ATM, draining the treasury dry. The development works and beneficiary programmes for the poor are being shelved due to the corruption, Modi said.

Pointing to the recent water crisis in Bengaluru, the prime minister said: “The IT Capital Bengaluru City is facing a severe water crisis and water tankers are being sold in the black market. In order to fight the election, Congress is sending over ₹100 crore black money across the country from Karnataka.”

PM’s embarrassing fiasco

The prime minister towards the end of his address, urged voters to teach a lesson to Congress and support BJP candidates — Mysuru’s nominee Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraj Wadiyar, Mandya’s candidate HD Kumaraswamy, Chamarajanagar’s candidate Balraj and Hassan’s nominee Prajwal Revanna — in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

While appealing to the voters, the prime minister had an embarrassing fiasco as he mispronounced the name of Mysuru’s nominee Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar.

Modi said: “Mysuru’s NDA nominee Yaduveer Krishnadatta ‘Yamaraj Waidyar…”

The prime minister was quick to correct his mistake and repronounced it as “Chamaraja Wadiyar”.

Concluding his address, Modi also promised to continue working towards the development and prosperity of Karnataka and the nation as a whole.
