Synopsis: Actor Prakash Raj’s name has been deleted from the Bengaluru Central electoral roll and flagged as “permanently shifted” during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Karnataka. Raj, a vocal critic of the Narendra Modi government, suggested that the deletion might be aimed at depriving him of his right to vote.
Actor Prakash Raj said on Tuesday, 11 August, that he is among the nearly 50 lakh of Bengaluru’s 1.03 crore electors whose names have been flagged for deletion from the electoral rolls after being categorised as Absent/Shifted/Dead/Duplicate & Other (ASDDO) during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in Karnataka.
The ASDDO list categorises Raj as having “permanently shifted” out of the Bengaluru Central constituency.
The ASDDO list published on the Chief Electoral Officer, Karnataka website shows that Raj has been categorised as having “permanently shifted” out of the Bengaluru Central constituency. The draft electoral roll is scheduled to be published on 17 August.

In a video message posted on social media, Raj said he was born and brought up in the constituency, studied and lived in the city, and had even contested the 2019 Lok Sabha election from Bengaluru Central as an independent candidate.
“Nice joke, no? I was born in this constituency. I lived in this constituency. I had my schooling, college, theater. And for your kind information, I was an MP candidate of this constituency too. Well, the joke is nice. Game on. Let me see what is the process I have to go through. Whatever paper I have to show to get back my voter ID,” he said.
Raj is a vocal critic of the Narendra Modi government. He suggested that the deletion of his name might be aimed at depriving him of his right to vote.
“But one little word, my ‘fraand’, you can use your powers to deny few of the citizens the right to vote who may not elect you. But can you stop us, my dear friend, from our power of bringing you down? Just asking. Bye,” he added.
