Ride-hailing platform Namma Yatri has launched the Namma Driver Welfare Trust (NDWT), a first-of-its-kind initiative aimed at ensuring the long-term financial and social well-being of its driver partners across Karnataka. The trust, formally announced on Wednesday, 25 June, will operate as an independently governed, legally registered entity.
To ensure sustainability, Namma Yatri has committed to allocating 2 percent of its annual revenue to the trust. This fund will be used to provide drivers with a range of benefits, including accident and medical assistance, educational scholarships, and access to financial planning tools.
The initiative is expected to offer much-needed support for thousands of drivers who form the backbone of the app-based mobility ecosystem.
Driver applications for NDWT membership will open in July, with full-scale operations scheduled to begin on 15 August.
All Namma Yatri drivers will be eligible, provided they complete a minimum of two to three rides per day, according to co-founder Shan MS.
