Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah Cabinet

Laxmi Hebbalkar, representing Belagavi Rural in the Karnataka Assembly, is the lone woman in the Siddaramaiah-led 34-minister-strong Cabinet.

Of the 24 ministers who were sworn in on Saturday, 27 May, eight are first-timers.

Besides Hebbalkar, Chintamani MLA Dr MC Sudhakar, Bhatkal-Honnavar MLA Mankal Vaidya, Sorab MLA Madhu Bangarappa, Ballari Rural MLA B Nagendra, Hebbal MLC Byrathi Suresh, Madhugiri MLA KN Rajanna, and Raichur’s NS Boseraju are first-time ministers.

The Congress sprang a surprise by making Boseraju, in charge of the Telangana Congress unit, a minister. He is neither an MLA nor MLC. He had been an MLA twice and an MLC once.

Most of the eight first-timers do not come from families with political backgrounds.

Madhu Bangarappa, son of late former chief minister Kumar Bangarappa, and MC Sudhakar, whose father MC Chowda Reddy was an MLA five times, are exceptions.
