The Bengaluru Central Division Police on Thursday, 16 October arrested a man from Maharashtra for threatening Karnataka IT Minister Priyank Kharge after the latter called for a ban on Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) activities in government and public spheres.
The accused has been identified as Dhanappa Naroni, a sales executive at a private company. An FIR was registered at Sadashivanagar Police Station following the threat call made to the minister.
A joint operation by Bengaluru Central Division and Kalaburagi Police led to Naroni’s arrest.
Kharge, the Minister for Electronics, IT/BT, and Rural Development & Panchayat Raj, had earlier shared a video on X, in which the unknown caller was heard hurling vile abuses at him and his family.
The minister responded by asking the caller whether the RSS and Shakha taught him such abusive language.
He also questioned whether Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders from Karnataka, such as state unit president BY Vijayendra, Leader of Opposition R Ashok, and others including CT Ravi, V Sunil Kumar, Pratap Simha, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, “would find it acceptable if such abuses were hurled at the mothers of Modi and Mohan Bhagwat?”
Kharge further stressed that the fight is not against an individual but “against this dirty mentality spread by RSS, a fight against the evil forces that are brainwashing the innocent and polluting their thoughts.”
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, responding to the threats, assured that the minister’s security would be enhanced. “Evil forces always indulge in such acts. Priyank is not afraid of threats, and neither am I,” he told reporters on Wednesday.
