Lokayukta police search properties of Karnataka minister’s secretary

The Lokayukta is investigating the official based on a complaint it received in Bagalkote.

Synopsis: The simultaneous searches were carried out at 10 locations across the state, including a residence in Halasuru in Bengaluru, and properties in Mysuru and Kodagu, in connection with a disproportionate assets case.

Karnataka Lokayukta officials on Wednesday, 24 December, searched properties linked to Sardar Sarfaraz Khan, personal secretary to Karnataka Housing, Waqf and Minority Welfare Minister BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan.

Sarfaraz Khan, a senior official of the Directorate of Co-operative Societies, has been deputed to the minister’s office.

The simultaneous searches were carried out at 10 locations across the state, including a residence in Halasuru in Bengaluru, and properties in Mysuru and Kodagu, in connection with a disproportionate assets case.

Lokayukta sleuths reportedly uncovered 14.38 crore worth of disproportionate assets, including four luxurious houses and several acres of agricultural land, among other immovable assets worth 8.44 crore. Jewellery worth 2.99 crore, vehicles valued at 1.64 crore and fixed deposits in the bank of 1.29 crore were also recovered, according to officials.

Reacting to the development, Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan said that he was not aware of why the raids were being conducted.

The Lokayukta is investigating the official based on a complaint it received in Bagalkote. The sleuths are examining seized documents and materials as part of the probe.

The reported unaccounted wealth found in Sarfaraz Khan’s possession has created a buzz in Karnataka politics.
