Lady Goschen Hospital to Launch Rs 1.5 Cr Obstetrics Critical Care Unit
The 174-year-old Government Lady Goschen Hospital in Mangaluru is set to open a state-of-the-art Obstetrics Critical Care Unit (OCCU) aimed at reducing maternal and infant mortality. Handling over 6,000 deliveries annually, the hospital will now offer advanced emergency care during childbirth’s critical “golden hours.”
The OCCU, located on the second floor, includes 18 upgraded beds with monitoring systems, ventilators, a defibrillator, syringe pumps, and a transport incubator. Rotary International is contributing medical equipment worth ₹1 crore, with an additional ₹50 lakh allocated through government and private funding.
The unit will also house essential facilities including a pre-labour ward, emergency obstetric OT, eclampsia ward, and a High Dependency Unit. It will support high-risk patients from nine Karnataka and three Kerala districts.
With 31,685 deliveries recorded over five years, the upgraded infrastructure aims to meet increasing demand and set new standards in maternal and neonatal care.
