A 19-year-old student was on Thursday, 15 December, found dead in a washroom in his college hostel in Bengaluru.
The teen’s death came to light when the hostel warden, while searching for him, found him dead inside the locked washroom, covered in blood.
The student, identified as one Nithin Prasoon, reportedly locked himself inside the washroom hostel and ended his life by slitting his throat.
The incident, according to the police, happened between 10.30 am and 2 pm on Thursday.
Nithin, a native of Kozhikode in Kerala, was an engineering student at AMC Engineering College, located on Bannerghatta Main Road in Bengaluru.
Called to the scene, the police shifted the body to a nearby government hospital after informing Nithin’s local guardian — his uncle — who is the complainant in the case.
Moody and depressed
Preliminary inquiries by cops, who spoke with Nithin’s hostel-mates and friends at the college, revealed that he was often moody and depressed since joining the course.
He was studying Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science at AMC Engineering College, where he enrolled this academic year with the help of his brother.
Nithin’s parents are working in Dubai and he had finished his schooling, his first, and second PU in Koyilandy, his hometown located in the Kozhikode district in Kerala, the police said.
Heated arguments & final decision
According to Nithin’s hostel mates, he had heated arguments over the phone with his parents living abroad a couple of times.
His friends had overheard him talking to his parents the day before the incident. They said he was demanding that they come down to Bengaluru to visit him.
However, on Thursday, he decided to take the extreme step.
“There was no death note on his person, and the doctors confirmed that he was dead on arrival at the hospital. The cause of death was heavy blood loss,” said a senior police officer.
Based on a complaint from the victim’s uncle, the Bannerghatta police registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating further.
Nithin’s parents, who are in Dubai, have been informed, while his uncle has returned to their hometown in Kozhikode with the body of his nephew after the postmortem procedures.
The final rites will be performed after the victim’s parents arrive from Dubai.
