A delegation led by state BJP president BY Vijayendra, Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly R Ashoka, and Narayanaswamy met Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh and submitted the complaint, seeking action against those behind the consignments.
Synopsis: NSUI ordered several consignments of knives and paper cutters online for MLC Chalavadi Narayanaswamy after he remarked that BJP workers will cut Congress into pieces and toss it into the Arabian Sea. The BJP has approached the police with a complaint seeking action against those behind the COD orders, and also demanded the cancellation of Blinkit’s licence.
BJP MLC and Leader of the Opposition in Karnataka’s Legislative Council, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, alleged remark that his party’s “karyakartas will chop Congress into pieces and throw them into the Arabian Sea”, sparked a unique protest on Saturday, 7 November.
The Congress’s students’ wing, the National Students Union of India (NSUI), delivered multiple cash-on-delivery consignments of knives and paper cutters to the BJP leader’s residence via online commerce platforms, prompting the BJP to lodge a police complaint seeking action against those responsible. It also demanded the cancellation of quick-commerce platform Blinkit’s operating licence.
NSUI state president Kirthi Ganesh confirmed in a video statement that the organisation had placed the orders in response to Narayanaswamy’s remarks. The BJP leader asserted that he had not ordered the items.
“Narayanaswamy, you can choose whatever items you want. Try cutting even a single party worker,” Ganesh said in the video, daring the BJP leader to “touch even a single hair of a single worker”.
The NSUI leader also urged party workers and leaders across the state to continue placing similar orders for delivery to Narayanaswamy’s residence.
A delegation led by state BJP president BY Vijayendra, Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly R Ashoka, and Narayanaswamy met Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh and submitted the complaint.
The BJP alleged that the orders were placed using multiple mobile phone numbers and that NSUI workers gathered outside Narayanaswamy’s residence. The party also alleged that the deliveries were made without adequate safety checks and sought strict action against those involved.
Even as delivery executives kept arriving at his residence, Narayanaswamy clarified that his remarks were directed at the Congress as a party, not any specific individual.
At a Kolar rally, held amid the Congress’s protests against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Narayanaswamy had said, “If you create anarchy, BJP karyakartas will chop Congress into pieces and throw them into the Arabian Sea.”
