Kannada superstar Yash on Monday, 8 January, visited Soranagi village in the Gadag district and consoled the family members of three young men, who were electrocuted while trying to erect his cutout.

He also met three others undergoing treatment at the Taluk Hospital. The actor later told his fans not to put up cutouts for him.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced an ex gratia of ₹2 lakh each to the bereaved families, after Shirahatti MLA Dr Chandru Lamani visited Soranagi, and met the bereaved families. District in-charge minister HK Patil told reporters that ₹50,000 will be given to the injured men.

The incident occurred late on Sunday, 7 January, when a group of youth from Soranagi were putting up the cutout of the actor to celebrate his birthday in Gadag’s Lakshmeshwar taluk.

The cutout contacted a live wire and three of them — Hanumanth Muchendappa (21), Murali Naduvinamane (20), and Naveen Neelappa (19) — were instantly killed.

The injured Manjunath Sadappa (23), Bheemappa Gallappa (18), and Prakash Shivappa Myageri (24) were rushed to the hospital immediately by their friends and relatives.

Die-hard Yash fans

All six were living in Soranagi village and were die-hard fans of the KGF hero.

The police said a dozen youths decided to erect a 25-foot cutout with a steel frame of the actor to celebrate his 38th birthday, which fell on Monday. While putting it up, it contacted a live wire and the trio who were holding the cutout were instantly killed.

The police said the youngsters used to erect Yash’s cutouts on all his birthdays at a particular place in the village.  However, this time they chose a different location.

Gadag Superintendent of Police BS Neme Gowda told South First that the youths were erecting the cutout of the actor in front of the Samudhayabhavana in Soranagi village. “The Laksmeshwara police have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating,” he said.

Yash was celebrating his birthday with family in Goa when he was informed of the incident. He immediately returned and visited Soranagi.
