Karnataka wins award for highest under-construction wind power capacity

Karnataka Energy and Tourism Minister KJ George said the recognition reflected the State’s efforts to attract investment in clean energy projects.

Synopsis: Karnataka won the award for the country’s highest under-construction wind power capacity, at 9 GW, at Windergy India 2026 in Chennai on 9 October. Energy Minister KJ George said the recognition reflected the State’s efforts to attract investment in clean energy, while the Energy Department pledged to work with stakeholders to ensure projects are completed on time.

Karnataka has won the award for the highest under-construction wind power capacity in the country, at 9 GW, at Windergy India 2026, held at the Chennai Trade Centre on Friday, 9 October.

Divya Prabhu GRJ, Managing Director of the Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited (KREDL), received the award from Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi at the eighth edition of the event, organised by the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association.

Karnataka Energy and Tourism Minister KJ George said the recognition reflected the State’s efforts to attract investment in clean energy projects.

“It is a matter of great pride and happiness for Karnataka to receive this national recognition for having the highest under-construction wind power capacity of 9 GW. This achievement is a reflection of Karnataka’s strong commitment to clean energy and our sustained efforts to create an enabling ecosystem for renewable energy investments,” he said.

Gaurav Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary, Energy Department, said the department would work with KREDL and other stakeholders to facilitate the timely execution of projects.

Windergy India 2026 brought together delegates and industry representatives for an international exhibition, conferences, live demonstrations, business and government meetings, and an academia forum. The event drew more than 3,000 global delegates and dignitaries.
