The Karnataka Police arrested the two people who allegedly stabbed Saral Vastu exponent Chandrashekar Angadi, popularly known as Chandrashekar Guruji, from the Belgaum district of the state late evening on Tuesday, 5 July.

The two arrested have been identified as Mahantesh Shirur and Manjunath Marewad.

“The two assailants were former employees of Angadi,” said the Karnataka Police.

Tracking the assailants

According to the police, the duo was arrested from Ramdurg in the Belgaum district while they were trying to escape.

“On tracking their mobile phones, we learnt that they were trying to escape via Ramdurg. With the help of the Belgaum Police, we managed to nab the assailants after a road chase. The duo was travelling in a car,” said an officer.

The police are yet to recover the sharp weapons used in the murder.

Hubballi Police Commissioner Labhu Ram told reporters, “The arrested stabbed Angadi on Tuesday afternoon. To nab the duo, we formed several teams and had kept their mobile phones under surveillance.”

He added that they sealed all the exit routes of the district and alerted police officials of the neighbouring district about the murder, providing them with the photographs of the assailants.

Motive unknown

“A team has been rushed to Belgaum to take their custody,” Ram told reporters.

“We are yet to ascertain the motives behind the murder. Once we question them, we will learn why they killed Angadi,” added the police commissioner.

According to the cops, Angadi had been staying at the hotel in Hubballi for four days.

On the day of his murder, the duo had come to meet him.

One of the assailants touched Angadi’s feet while the other stabbed him multiple times in the abdomen and chest.

He was rushed to KIMS Hospital for medical attention, but the doctors declared him dead on arrival.
