Karnataka Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested nine people for their involvement in KPTCL paper leak.

The Dakshina Kannada Police managed to make substantial breakthroughs in the murder cases of BJP worker Praveen Nettaru and Surathkal murder victim Mohammed Fazil.

Two accused of Praveen’s murder and seven of Fazil’s murder were nabbed by the police.

The police arrested two people on 2 August for their alleged involvement in the murder of Nettaru.

Saddam (32) and Harris (42) were charged under Section 16 and 18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, and IPC Section 302, 120B, and 34.

Both the accused hail from Ballari.

According to the police, the team investigating Nettaru’s murder identified the suspected conspirators and assailants in this case. Other suspects were said to be absconding.

The police statement indicated that more arrests could be made soon.

The police on 28 July arrested the first two accused, Zakir (29) and Shafiq (27) in the same case.

BJP Yuva Morcha worker Praveen Nettaru was hacked to death on the night of 26 July in the Sullia town of Dakshina Kannada.

Fazil murder case

Seven arrests have been made in the case of Mohammed Fazil’s murder.

Mangaluru Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar on Tuesday announced that six people had been arrested in connection with the case.

They have been identified as Suhas Shetty (29), Mohan (26), Giridhar (23), Abhishek (21), Srinivas (23) and Deekshith (21). They were arrested in the Vidyanagar area of Dakshina Kannada.

The first arrest in Fazil’s case was Ajith Crasta on 31 July.

Kumar told reporters, “Ajith Crasta (44) had given his car to the assailants. The car was found abandoned in a village near Padubidri in the Udupi district on 31 July.”

The police have filed cases under IPC Section 143, 147, 324, 326, and 302 in connection with the murder.

Surathkal Police Inspector Chandrappa K told South First, “Accused Suhas, hailing from Bajpe, had a discussion with Abhishek to kill someone after identifying six-seven targets. But they executed only one person on 28 July night. The motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained.”

All the accused were produced in a magistrate court and subsequently sent to 14 days of police custody.

It was revealed that the first meeting to plan the murder took place on 26 July.

Among the six, four have a history of run-ins with the law. Four cases against Suhas, three against Srinivas, three against Srinivas, and two against Abhishekh are already underway.

According to the Mangaluru Police Commissioner, eight teams have been formed to trace the culprits.

The 23-year-old Mohammed Fazil was murdered on 28 July, two days after Praveen’s death, in the Mangalpet area of Surathkal.
