Karnataka Platform-Based Gig Workers Act, 2025 rules notified: Board to meet at least once every three months
A meeting requires at least 50 percent attendance from ex-officio members, 50 percent from aggregators/platforms, and 50 percent from gig worker representatives.

Synopsis: Aggregators must electronically submit a database of all gig workers in a machine-readable format. Changes (additions or separations) must be reported within seven days. Gig worker data is protected under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and can only be used for analyzing social security benefits.
The Karnataka government on Tuesday, 31 March has notified the rules for the Karnataka Platform-Based Gig Workers (Social Security and Welfare) Act, 2025.
Under the rules, every matter shall be considered in a meeting of the welfare board or via circulation of a resolution as directed by the Chairman. The Board shall meet at least once every three months.
A meeting requires at least 50 percent attendance from ex-officio members, 50 percent from aggregators/platforms, and 50 percent from gig worker representatives.
Every aggregator or platform operating in Karnataka must register on the designated web portal. Upon successful registration, the Board will issue a Registration Certificate and a Unique Registration Number.
Aggregators must electronically submit a database of all gig workers in a machine-readable format. Changes (additions or separations) must be reported within seven days. Gig worker data is protected under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and can only be used for analyzing social security benefits.
Registered gig workers will receive a Unique Identification Number and access to a dashboard to view their payments, welfare fees, and eligible schemes.
Aggrieved workers can file complaints with the platform’s Internal Dispute Resolution Committee within seven working days of an incident. The committee must resolve grievances within 15 working days.
The composition of such a committee shall be one president, two administrative staff, not less than three senior gig workers. At least two of the above members must be women.
The welfare board may also frame and notify benefits to registered workers related to life insurance, accident, medical, disability and maternity benefits.
