Synopsis: In Wednesday’s wrap of Karnataka news — The BJP’s Central Disciplinary Committee issued show-cause notices to five Karnataka leaders for making public statements on party matters, demanding explanations within 72 hours. In Belagavi, 16-year-old Deepika Rajendra Badiger died by suicide after fearing failure in her SSLC exams. Meanwhile, BBMP cleaners and drivers are on strike, demanding regularization of services, affecting waste collection in the city.
To enforce discipline and curb unwarranted public statements on internal party matters, the BJP’s Central Disciplinary Committee has issued show-cause notices to five Karnataka leaders — Katta Subramanya Naidu, MP Renukacharya, BP Harish, Shivaram Hebbar, and ST Somshekhar.
They have 72 hours to explain why action should not be taken against them. The notice, signed by Om Pathak, states that making public remarks on organisational matters violates Article XXV, Sections (d) and (f) on breach of discipline. If they fail to respond, further action may be taken.
In the past few months, the state BJP unit made rebellious statements by two factions, one supporting leader BY Vijayendra and the other supporting Basavaraj Patil Yatnal. Supporters of Vijayendra have been making statements that seem to be troublesome and doubt the party’s leadership.
Similarly, Shivam Hebbar and ST Somashekar have been making unwarranted statements against the party.
Deepika Rajendra Badiger (16), died by suicide in Belagavi on Tuesday. According to police officials in Belagavi’s Forest Colony, Deepika took the step after taking her SSLC exam.
According to her parents, Deepika made the decision fearing that she would fail her exams.
Hundreds of BBMP cleaners and drivers are on strike, demanding the regularisation of their services. Thayagraj, president of Karmika Samarakshane Sangha, said, “We have brought this issue to the notice of Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, and he had said that he would look into the regularisation of our jobs. Currently, 10,000 of us are working on a contract basis.”
With this ongoing protest, the city is likely to be hit by waste collection, leading to the accumulation of more garbage in black spots.
