Karnataka ministers Priyank Kharge and MB Patil criticised the Union government over low allocation to the state in the October 2025 advance tax devolution.
While Karnataka received ₹3,705 crore, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar received massive shares of ₹18,227 crore and ₹10,219 crore, respectively. Kharge and Patil alleged that the BJP’s ‘vote-bank’ states received larger shares in comparison to Karnataka.
“Karnataka alone contributed ₹1.6 lakh crore in GST in FY 2024–25, and ₹1.9–2.2 lakh crore in direct and corporate taxes, yet the Centre shortchanges us. For every ₹100 Karnataka sends to Delhi, we get back ₹12, while UP gets ₹295 back and Bihar gets ₹770 back,” Kharge said in a post on X on Saturday, 4 October.
Showing the allocation to the states, Kharge said that all five southern states put together received a lesser share than Uttar Pradesh. “We are the state that creates maximum jobs, absorbs the highest number of migrants, leads in IT/ITeS exports and powering the nation’s growth, yet we are being starved of funds by the Centre,” Kharge added.
Patil termed it as “financial discrimination against a state that fuels India’s GDP, innovation, and tax revenues.” “Karnataka contributes more — it must receive more,” he said in a post on X.
According to the data from the Union government, Andhra Pradesh received ₹4,112 crore, Kerala received ₹1,956 crore, Tamil Nadu received ₹4,144 crore, and Telangana received ₹2,136 crore.
Kharge also questioned why the Karnataka unit of the BJP was silent over the allocation and said, ” Instead of Dharmasthala Chalo, they should do a Delhi Chalo.”
BJP’s vote-bank states Uttar Pradesh and Bihar get ₹18,000 cr and ₹10,000 cr respectively, while Karnataka is left with a mere ₹3,700 crore.
All five southern states put together get less than Uttar Pradesh.
