In yet another case of heinous crimes against women in the country, a married man beheaded his former girlfriend in Talibani style in the Vijayanagara district of Karnataka on Thursday, 21 July.

He then walked into the local police station with her severed head.

The victim’s torso was recovered from her house and sent for an autopsy.

Vijayanagara Superintendent of Police (SP) Arun K confirmed the development to South First.

The accused has been identified as Bhoja Raja, a 23-year-old truck driver, and the victim as Nirmala, a nursing student.

Love turned sour

“The accused and the victim were in a relationship for two years. The man got married to another woman recently, but wanted to continue his relationship with Nirmala,” the top cop said.

According to the SP, Raja believed that Nirmala should not get into another relationship, and suspected that she was seeing someone else after his marriage.

“Raja on Thursday afternoon managed to sneak into Nirmala’s house in Kanniboarayyanahalli Hatti and murdered her after a heated argument,” said Arun.

The SP added that the accused had been arrested, and a case registered against him under IPC Sections 302 (murder) and 450 (trespassing in order to commit a crime).

‘Walked in with severed head’

A senior police officer stationed at Kanniboarayyanahalli Hatti police station told South First, “The accused walked into the station on Thursday afternoon. He had brought the woman’s head covered in a towel along with him.”

He added: “When police personnel at the station asked Raja about his visit, he pulled out the severed head from the towel and threw it on the ground.”

Raja was taken into custody immediately, the officer said.

Asked about the reasons behind his actions, Taja apparently told the cops that he wanted to marry Nirmala but she had started seeing someone else after his marriage, and that infuriated him.

“Raja also told us that before his marriage he met Nirmala’s parents to seek their permission to marry her, but her father declined his proposal,” the officer added.
