Karnataka Lokayukta nabs public prosecutor for allegedly taking ₹1,100 bribe

Synopsis: Karnataka Lokayukta arrested Bengaluru public prosecutor K S Latha red-handed for accepting a ₹1,100 bribe to file court objections. Caught in a trap, she faces charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Investigation continues.

Karnataka Lokayukta police on Wednesday arrested a public prosecutor for allegedly accepting a paltry bribe of 1,100, officials said.

The arrested accused, KS Latha, is a Public Prosecutor at the XLV Additional City Civil and Sessions Court in Bengaluru (CCH-46), reported the Deccan Herald.

According to officials, the complainant had reported to them that Latha had demanded the bribe to file objections in a case.

Lokayukta officials set a trap and apprehended the prosecutor in the act while she accepted the bribe of 1,100. She was promptly arrested.

The Lokayukta police have charged her under Section 7A (taking undue advantage to influence a public servant by corrupt or illegal means or by exercise of personal influence) of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Further investigation is on.
