Synopsis: Karnataka Lokayukta arrested a govt official, First Division Assistant in Sedam, Kalaburagi, for demanding Rs 28,500 to process a widow’s pension. He was caught red-handed accepting Rs 25,000 via UPI in a sting operation. A case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Karnataka Lokayukta officials arrested a First Division Assistant (FDA) working with the office of the Block Education Officer (BEO) in Sedam, Kalaburagi district, on suspicion of accepting a bribe from a complainant.
According to details provided superintendent of police (Lokayukta), the accused, Shivalingappa, is alleged to have demanded Rs 28,500 from the complainant, Afridi, a resident of Mohalla Maidan in Yadgir city, in order to process the post-retirement pension benefits of his mother, Razak Begum.
Afridi reported the matter to the Lokayukta police and filed a formal complaint.
A team under inspector Arunkumar Muragundi nabbed the accused at the moment he allegedly recovered Rs 25,000 via UPI, reported The Hindu.
Lokayukta officials have confirmed that a case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
