Karnataka launches KEO AI PC; 2,222 computers to reach students across 239 taluks and 31 residential schools

Synopsis: Unveiling the Made-in-Karnataka initiative that brings affordable, AI-enabled computing closer to students and people across the state, the chief minister announced that “8 KEO PCs will be deployed through two Model Arivu Kendras in each of 239 taluks and 10 PCs each across 31 Model Residential Schools, a total of 2,222 KEO AI PCs will be made available.”
Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Saturday, 22 August, launched Karnataka State Electronics Development Corporation Limited’s (KEONICS) new artificial intelligence (AI)-powered computing platform KEO.
Unveiling the Made-in-Karnataka initiative that brings affordable, AI-enabled computing closer to students and people across the state, the chief minister announced that “8 KEO PCs will be deployed through two Model Arivu Kendras in each of 239 taluks and 10 PCs each across 31 Model Residential Schools, a total of 2,222 KEO AI PCs will be made available.”
During the launch, the chief minister also noted, “KEO stands for Knowledge-driven, Economical and Open-source, a name that reflects the idea behind this initiative. Technology and AI must not remain limited to those with access to expensive devices or urban infrastructure. With on-device AI capabilities and tools for digital learning and AI literacy, KEO is designed to take new opportunities in technology to more people, including those in rural Karnataka.”

According to an The New Indian Express report, two MoUs were signed between the Shikshana Foundation and the Karnataka Residential Educational Institutions Society (KREIS) and between the Shikshana Foundation and RSA, supporting the deployment and wider adoption of KEO across educational and community environments in Karnataka.

Minister of Home and IT and BT Priyank Kharge, also took to X, to share the news.
