Karnataka launches drone initiative in Kalaburagi to boost policing and youth skilling

The Government of Karnataka today, 24 July, launched a pioneering drone initiative in Kalaburagi, combining advanced surveillance for law enforcement with large-scale youth skilling in drone operations. At a formal event in Bengaluru, Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara handed over AI-powered surveillance drones—Nimble-i and NS01—to Kalaburagi Police Commissioner Dr. S.D. Sharanappa.

The Karnataka-made drones, supported through private CSR funding, offer features like number plate recognition, night and day surveillance, and rapid deployment, enhancing police responsiveness and public safety.

“Our goal is to equip every police station with drones—smart technology for smarter policing,” said Dr. Parameshwara.

Joining the launch, IT & BT and RDPR Minister Priyank Kharge announced training for 500 youth in Kalaburagi in DGCA-certified drone operations. “This is not just about jobs—it’s about creating a local innovation ecosystem in rural Karnataka,” he said, underlining the state’s vision for inclusive, tech-driven development.

The initiative positions Karnataka as a hub for drone talent and innovation, leveraging its strengths in aerospace and R&D to empower youth and strengthen governance across districts.
