The Mandya district police in Karnataka on Friday, 10 November, arrested three people for the alleged gang-rape of a 17-year-old girl at a lodge in Mandya.

The arrested include the prime accused, a classmate of the survivor who befriended the minor girl, pretended to have fallen in love with her, and lured her to the lodge, the police said.

The police have booked all three accused — one of them a minor — under relevant sections of the POCSO Act, the IPC as well as under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act as the girl belonged to the Dalit community.

The incident

According to the police, the prime accused is an 18-year-old pre-university (PU) student from the same PU college as the survivor.

He allegedly asked the girl to come to a lodge on 4 November, apparently so they could spend some time in privacy there.

The girl met her there. The prime accused then allegedly sexually assaulted her and even videographed her. He is then said to have called his two friends — one of them minor — who were not from the college.

The three then took turns sexually assaulting the girl, the police said.

The prime accused videographed these acts as well, and then threatened the girl to come to the place wherever they called her, or they would leak the videos on social media, a police officer said.

As the girl could not bear the blackmail, she opened up with her parents. They immediately took her to the Maddur Police Station and filed a complaint.
