Fake news in Karnataka

A mere week after the resonating echoes of alleged anti-national slogans within the hallowed walls of the Vidhana Soudha, Karnataka’s Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara officially revealed the pivotal findings of the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL).

These findings revealed that unidentified individuals did indeed brazenly proclaim “Pakistan Zindabad” slogans on 27 February, contrary to the Congress’s stand since the incident.

On Monday, 4 March, the Bengaluru police arrested three persons in connection with the case. The Bengaluru City Police said that action was being initiated based on the FSL report, circumstantial evidence, and witness accounts. However, they did not disclose the findings of the report to the public at the time.

To recall, on 27 February, video clips emerged of supporters of recently-elected Congress Rajya Sabha member Syed Naseer Hussain celebrating the declaration of his victory in the election. While slogans of “Naseer Sahib Zindabad” were being shouted in jubilation, the Opposition BJP claimed that “Pakistan Zindabad” slogans were raised — a claim vehemently denied by the ruling Congress.

Opposition parties, led by BJP MLC N Ravikumar and Karnataka Legislative Assembly’s Opposition party Chief Whip Doddanagouda Patil, had filed a complaint before the Vidhana Soudha Police on the day of the incident.

Following the recent announcement by the state Home Minister, BJP’s Karnataka unit chief BY Vijayendra and Leader of Opposition R Ashoka have demanded that Vice-President and Rajya Sabha Speaker Jagdeep Dhankhar not administer the oath to Syed Naseer Hussain until the investigation is concluded.

Karnataka HM confirms pro-Pakistan slogans

Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara, shedding light on the FSL findings, confirmed that the investigation had uncovered significant evidence regarding “Pakistan Zindabad” slogans inside the Vidhana Soudha.

Speaking to reporters, he stated, “The report says slogans were raised twice but does not indicate who said it. Based on circumstantial evidence, we have made arrests.”

“It is a straightforward continuous video that they have examined and they have confirmed that ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ was shouted,” he said.

“Looking at the lip moment, the police have confirmed and arrested three people,” he added.

On the Opposition’s allegations that the accused are Congress workers, Parameshwara replied, “No! Congress sympathisers, Congress workers, office bearers…we don’t know anything. Let the police investigate that. The case has been registered and they have produced the arrested before the magistrate. The investigation will go on. What comes out of the investigation, I cannot say right now.”

When questioned about the delayed release of the FSL report, he explained, “We waited because other reports had to come.”

Don’t administer oath to Syed Naseer Hussain: BJP

Following the confirmation of pro-Pakistan slogans by the FSL reports, the BJP’s Karnataka unit leaders, including state chief BY Vijayendra and Leader of Opposition R Ashoka have demanded that Vice-President and Rajya Sabha Speaker Jagdeep Dhankhar not administer the oath to Syed Naseer Hussain until the investigation is concluded.

In his post on X, BY Vijayendra said, “Rajya Sabha member Naseer Hussain, who brought anti-India traitors inside the legislative building to shout ‘Pakistan Zindabad’, should also be considered as an accused and legal action should be taken.”

“The case should be considered as ‘sedition’ and ‘insulting the sovereignty of India’, and an investigation has to be carried out,” he said.

“The BJP will request the Vice-President, who is also the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, not to administer oath to Naseer Hussain until the trial of the case is over. If the Congress has national commitment, it should show its loyalty to the country by not supporting the traitors in this case,” demanded Vijayendra.

He added that he would write a letter to President Murmu as well, asking for Syed Naseer Hussain not be administered the oath in the Rajya Sabha.

An official from the Opposition Leader’s Office told South First, “LoP R Ashoka will submit a memorandum to Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar on the matter at Delhi on Wednesday. He will be flying to Dehi on party duties.”

Responding to the BJP’s demands, Home Minister Parameshwara said, “We have to do whatever the BJP says, right? Well, it is not like. That it not how it works. We will work on what the system says, what the law of land says.”
