Karnataka government monetary aid for SC/ST patients suffering from rare, high cost diseases

Karnataka will also aid in the treatment of growth hormone deficiency disease, primary immunodeficiency diseases, and sickle-cell anaemia.

The Karnataka government on Thursday, 8 September announced monetary aid for SC/ST patients who are suffering from ailments categorised as “rare diseases” and “high-cost diseases”.

Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar, while announcing the scheme, said aid for several types of diseases was currently being provided under the Ayushman Bharat Arogya Karnataka Scheme.

“However, certain rare and high-cost diseases, that are not covered under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme, and for which there is no facility to provide treatment in government hospitals, monetary aid for will be provided by the state government through the Suvarna Arogya Suraksha Trust using unspent SCST/TSP fund allocation,” said Sudhakar.

The minister added that currently, a total of ₹23.18 crore of unspent allocations exist, and this will be used to fund this new scheme.

“The government will provide ₹10,000 for PET scans, ₹7 lakh and ₹21 lakh for autologous and allogeneic bone marrow transplants, respectively, and ₹1.5 lakh for robotic surgeries,” he added.

The government will also provide monetary aid for the treatment of growth hormone deficiency disease, primary immunodeficiency diseases, and sickle-cell anaemia.

“The Karnataka government is helping the poor and vulnerable through the Ayushman Bharat Scheme. Patients who belong to the SC/ST communities will be greatly benefitted as aid is being extended to even rare and high-cost diseases,” said Sudhakar.
