Karnataka Cracks Down on Cattle Grazing in Forests
Karnataka Forest Minister Eshwar B Khandre on Tuesday ordered strict enforcement of the ban on cattle grazing in forests across the state. The directive follows the recent death of a tigress and her cubs in the Hoogyam Range of MM Hills Wildlife Sanctuary. Khandre raised concern over cattle entering Karnataka’s forests from Tamil Nadu, where grazing is already banned by court order.
He warned that no compensation will be given for loss of life or livestock within forest boundaries. The minister stressed that domestic animals disrupt prey availability for carnivores and risk spreading diseases to wildlife. He also warned of stern action against forest officials who fail to implement the order. The move aims to curb man-animal conflict and protect biodiversity.
