Synopsis: KN Rajanna alleged that he was targeted in a honey trap attempt by some unknown person. Home Minister G Parameshwara announced that he would order a high-level probe and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah assured action against everybody who was involved.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday, 21 March, assured action against everybody who was involved in a failed honey-trapping attempt on Cooperation Minister KN Rajanna.
On Thursday, Rajanna made the shocking and serious allegation that he was targeted in a honey trap attempt by some unknown person. Soon after the allegation, Home Minister G Parameshwara announced that he would order a high-level probe based on the written complaint filed by Rajanna.
Siddaramaiah assured an impartial probe and said action would be initiated against all those who were involved in the alleged attempt irrespective of party lines.
The allegations came to light after BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal pointed out that someone was attempting to honeytrap Senior Congress leader Rajanna.
Speaking at the state assembly on Thursday, Yatnal said, “All these acts lead to blackmailing the public representatives. I urge the home minister to take action in the interest of all the legislators. Some politicians who are aspiring to become CM have attempted to trap Rajanna and others in a honey trap case. Anyone can be the next victim.”
Replying to him, Rajanna admitted that he was subjected to the honey trap attempt. He said, “I am not Sri Ramachandra or Satya Harishchandra to hide this issue. I confirm that there was a honeytrap attempt on me.”
He further added, “It is not just me but 48 others, including central leaders, judges and leaders across all the parties, were also victims of honeytrap attempts. Even their videos and sleazy CDs are being made, and they are being blackmailed for the same.”
Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in Karnataka Assembly R Ashoka pointed out that it was not just Congress leaders who raised allegations of ‘honeytrap’ attempts. “It is not the issue of one party… It is a big conspiracy against legislators who are working for the people, and some are doing this with a clear, hidden agenda,” claimed Ashoka.
BJP MP and former chief minister Basavaraj Bommai said, “Every case should be inquired thoroughly and whoever behind them should be booked and put behind bars. Once and for all the whole thing should be cleansed. ”
Rajanna said in the Assembly that he wanted to know who “produced”, “directed” and “acted” in the honeytrap attempt on him.
Earlier, Ramesh Jarkiholi, a BJP leader and former minister, was embroiled in the honeytrap case in 2021. After the sleazy videos went viral, Ramesh had to resign from the ministry.
