The Maddur police in the Mandya district of Karnataka on Thursday, 11 September, registered a case against BJP leader and MLC CT Ravi, a day after he made provocative remarks targeting the Muslim community during a Ganesha visarjan rally.
The case has been registered under Section 196(1)(a) of the BNS, which pertains to promoting enmity between groups on religious or other grounds.
On Wednesday, Ravi said that Hindus are born in India and Muslims are outsiders.
“We have not gathered here to celebrate. We have come to tell you not to take advantage of our silence and goodness. We are here to show the strength of our Hindu samaj. You (Muslims) are trying to destroy us. Let’s all live in peace. You are the outsiders and we are born here,” said the MLC.
He demanded that the state government punish the police officials who lathi-charged Hindu activists. He also demanded the arrest of all those who threw stones during the Ganesha procession on Sunday.
Further, taking aim at the state government and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Ravi said: “They are trying to divide us using caste. Siddaramaiah, don’t think you will last long in power. We won’t allow this country to be destroyed.”
“Hindus should leave caste alone and unite. They have been trying to attack us through caste. Hindus should become aware of this. If we remain silent, our men and women will not survive. We should all feel that we are all one, that we are all Hindus,” he said.
Ravi warned that Hindus would respect Muslims if they behaved, but would “behead them” if challenged. He also accused the state government of being anti-Hindu and pro-Muslim.
Referring to the BJP rule in Uttar Pradesh, Ravi said, “In Yogi’s land, JCBs have been set on even those who throw stones at the Ganesha idol. If you have the strength, do that work. Otherwise, Yogi will come here also. Our people will not hesitate to sacrifice their lives for religion and country.”
Maddur witnessed a stone pelting incident during the Ganesha idol immersion procession on Sunday evening. Police arrested around 22 people in connection with the case.
Another group retaliated by targeting a mosque, leading to a clash between the two communities.
