Karnataka Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested nine people for their involvement in KPTCL paper leak.

The police in Karnataka have arrested two people in connection with the stabbing of two others after a scuffle broke out between two groups in the Malasamudra village of the Gadag district on the evening of Tuesday, 9 August.

Two youths named Tousheef (23) and Mustaqh (24) were stabbed around 5.30 pm during a Muharram procession.

This happened when two youths — Yellappa and Salman — were manhandled by Tousheef and Mustaqh. In retaliation, Yellappa’s brother Somesh interfered and stabbed the victims.

The Malasamudram village, the site of the incident, falls under the jurisdiction of Gadag Rural Police.

Gadag Rural Police Station inspector Chandrashekar Hariharan told South First, “Two accused — Somesh Gudi (28) and Salman (20) — were arrested on Monday night from Malasamudram. The third accused is a minor.”

He added that the accused were being interrogated, and would be produced in court on Wednesday.

Hariharan added, “The case has no communal angle as the accused are both Hindu and Muslim. The fight broke out suddenly. Our priority is the treatment of the victims.”

As per the inspector, Tousheef and Mustaqh were under treatment at the Gadag government hospital.

Mustaqh was said to be out of danger, whereas Tousheef was under doctors’ supervision.

Police officials are in touch with the families of the victims to provide necessary assistance.

They are investigating the reason behind the scuffle that led to the stabbing.

The accused have been booked under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 307 (attempt to murder) and Section 324 (causing hurt by dangerous weapon or means).

Gadag Superintendent of Police Shivaprakash Devaraju told reporters that one of the accused, Somesh, was a member of the Hindutva outfit Sri Rama Sene, but the incident had no communal motive.

The SP also took to Twitter to request people to avoid rumours.

He wrote, “I request everyone to cooperate and not to indulge in any rumour mongering . We will inquire into the matter impartially and take strict action on the persons involved in the incident. [sic]”
